SUMMARY
Systems Engineers will be involved in the servicing of all aspects of customer's IT environment projects, provide technical leadership for mid-range to large enterprise systems projects and provide technical knowledge and skill in systems deployment, operations, and management including architecture, design, installation, customization, deployment, problem solving, and mentoring.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide analysis of customer requirements to determine feasibility of a technical solution and its design within time and cost constraints.
- Provide leadership for medium to large enterprise systems management projects, including work direction for other personnel assigned to the projects.
- Provide pre-sales support for marketing and sales personnel in areas of technical expertise.
- Prioritize work based on departmental priorities and system criticality
- Share expertise with fellow team members
- Develop customer specific design documents for enterprise solutions.
- Develop project documentation, including statement of work, detailed project plan, architecture design, detailed implementation plan, deployment plan, and project test plan, operational training material.
- Develop and direct software system testing procedures, shell script programming, and documentation for each.
- Initiate consultation with other specialist and technical staff to evaluate the interface between hardware and software, and operational and performance requirements of overall system solutions.
- Consult with customers concerning maintenance of software system recommending the appropriate level of support for each software vendor.
- Provide expert customer support for the duration of all projects, including acting as liaison to vendor support groups.
- Coordinate the planning and installation of software systems.
- Produce internal documentation, including status reports, weekly time accounting reports, technical alerts to other consultants for areas of assigned expertise, and other management reports as assigned.
- Proactively identify problems and makes recommendations regarding solutions
- Responsible for end-user (customer) satisfaction

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- 7+ years relevant Information Technology experience
- 4+ years experience as a Systems Engineer with responsibilities similar to those listed for this position
- Demonstrated competency in the required technologies listed for this position
- Effective communications skill, both in writing and speaking abilities. Pertinent experience includes requirements gathering, design, deployment, and documentation for systems integration projects.
- Excellent prioritization and organization skills, strong analytical skills, proactive, decisive, action-oriented and quick learning.
- Must have the ability to work autonomously with a minimum of direction, work on multiple projects simultaneously, and change direction quickly when needed.
- Strong customer focus and ability to manage client expectations.
Required Technologies:
- At least two years experience in installing and configuring systems management tools for either UNIX and TCP/IP networks or IBM systems and network management products.
- Deep and diverse operating systems and applications experience systems administration skills with at least two of the following operating systems: Windows (XP, 2000, 2003), AIX, HP-UX, Sun Solaris, Linux, OS/2, IBM iSeries OS/400, and VMware.
- Experience with products and technologies such as: LDAP, Active Directory, DB2, MS-SQL, Oracle, and other technologies commonly used or managed in enterprise systems management solutions.
- A degree in Information Systems or Computer Science is strongly preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
- Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining virtualized systems is desired.
- Experience with storage management solutions and Storage Area Networks is desired.
- Multi-language scripting skills and experience in developing scripts in two or more scripting languages is desired. (i.e. PERL, UNIX shell, or MS DOS scripts)
Process knowledge in areas such as: Change Management, Incident Management, Problem Management, Solution Life cycle Management, Software Configuration Management, Release Management, or Configuration Management Databases is also critical. are helpful but not required
